Affiliates often wonder about the benefits of email advertising in today’s ever changing online world. Does it reap the rewards for the amount of time and effort put into writing and sending these emails? Will anyone even bother to read them?
Email advertising is still here and there is absolutely no sign of it phasing out any time soon, so companies will do themselves well to learn how to implement it to their benefit. According to research conducted by the Direct Marketing Association, email marketing was expected to generate a return on investment(ROI) of $42.08 for every dollar spent on it in 2010. As such, it outperforms all the other direct marketing channels examined. Also, 72% of respondents to an e-consultancy survey in early 2011 described email advertising ROI as excellent or at worst, good.
Email marketing works for a variety of reasons:
- It allows specific targeting
- It is data driven
- It drives direct sales
- It builds relationships, loyalty and trust
- It supports sales through other channels
Just as it is with all things business, benefits are realised when attention and effort is put into marketing, and so it is with email advertising. It works, but you simply must get the basics right. Research and compile a list of people who you want to hear to hear from you, then construct a concise, interesting message that attracts their attention and caters to their needs or wants and finally ensure that the email gets through to the people on that list. Once you have the basics right, there's a whole spectrum of more sophisticated tools you can employ to drive further success.
One must not forget that there is always an affiliate manager on call to support affiliates and guide them throughout the process. Simply get in touch!
